I have a story that I need to tell. I’ve been wanting to get it out there for a while, but just never made time for it. When I finally sat down to write it, so much had already happened that I really didn’t know where to start. I can not wait any longer though, I am afraid I will start forgetting the details. So finally I am starting this blog about me and my dogs, and about our life together.

My dogs are not the smartest, cutest, or best behaved. They can not do fancy tricks. They are average at best. They are mutts. My home is their second chance at a happy life. The only thing that makes my dogs special is that they are my dogs, they live with me, and for that they get unconditional love. They don’t even have to be good dogs to get my love, I accept them for who they are with all their faults and issues. They are individuals. They have their own personalities, likes and dislikes. We have been working on their issues, but whether we get those issues resolved or not, these dogs will continue to live with me until death do us part. I don’t just love my dogs. I am in love with them.

My dogs and I have a relationship. It’s actually the best relationship that I have ever had with other living being. We seem to have an understanding. They don’t always get their way, and neither do I. We compromise a lot. I only have a few rules for my dogs. Bark until I say “stop barking”, which doesn’t always work. Don’t pee and poop in the house. Try not pull on the leash when we are walking (we are still working on that). Try and get along with other dogs (still working on that one as well).

My dogs are not my pets and I’m not their master. We are a family, even though we are not related. They are my fur-kids but I don’t treat them like little humans. They are dogs and I allow them to act like dogs. Their happiness is my priority. Seeing them happy, makes me happy.
This story is about four dogs and one human. I am the human. My name is Anna. I used to ride motorcycles, a lot. In 2012 I adopted a dog. Shortly after I sold all my motorcycles and bought my first house. Then I adopted more dogs.

Atticus, a Border Terrier - Parson Russell mix, was my first dog. I found him on Craigslist, one of many “rehoming dog “ads. Amissa, a Cairn Terrier - Dachshund mix, was a stray. A friend of mine found her when she was a little tiny puppy. Abby, a Schnauzer - Dachshund mix, I adopted from a New Mexico Animal Control facility where she was scheduled to be put down. Two months later I adopted a second dog from the same facility that was also scheduled to be put down, I named her Aislinn. Her mix is still a mystery to me, but I’m leaning toward Miniature Pinscher and some sort of terrier with very coarse and stiff fur.
These dogs have changed my life, just as I have changed theirs. This is our story.
